About the training:

Help prevent the introduction and spread of Aquatic Invasive Species. This training will prepare you to look for Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) in lakes or streams you visit. Training will focus on early detection of AIS where management or eradication options may still be available. The training will consist of a presentation on the major species of concern, what to do if you find an AIS, and identification. Depending on weather, following the presentation, we will walk down to Bush Lake and toss a rake sampler and identify what we find. If you have samples of plants or other species found in Bush or another lake, feel free to bring them to class in a closed container or zipper bag in water. Keep samples refrigerated until class. Presented by Hennepin County, Fortin Consulting, and the Bush Lake Izaak Walton League.

Example of species that will be covered:

  • Brittle naiad
  • Flowering rush
  • Zebra mussels
  • Brazilian waterweed
  • Starry stonewort
  • Rusty crayfish
  • and more
